The long-awaited conflict between Earth and the Viltrumite Empire has begun. The fourth season of Invincible premieres today on Prime Video, with the first three episodes now available. The new season promises a brutal escalation of stakes, introducing the deadliest Viltrumite yet, and forcing Earth’s defenders into a desperate alliance.
The Premise
Mark Grayson, also known as Invincible, has endured a series of catastrophic battles against cyborgs, alien conquerors, and even his own father. Following the bloody clash with Conquest at the close of Season 3, Mark is now reliant on robotic enhancements built by Rudy, aka Robot. But all previous threats pale in comparison to the impending Viltrumite invasion.
The comic’s adaptation has been praised for its uncompromising violence and unflinching portrayal of superhero brutality. The stakes have never been higher.
The Viltrumite Threat
Season 3 revealed the Viltrumite race has dwindled to fewer than 50 survivors. Despite their reduced numbers, their power remains terrifying. Even a single Viltrumite is capable of overwhelming destruction, and Season 4 will introduce Thragg (Lee Pace), widely considered the strongest Viltrumite warrior.
The trailer’s ominous tone, underscored by Allen the Alien’s bleak assessment (“Everything bad is happening all at the same time”), signals the sheer scale of the coming war.
Alliances and Uncertain Loyalties
Earth’s defense hinges on a fragile alliance:
- The Coalition of Planets: Led by Allen the Alien (Seth Rogen) and including Viltrumite defector Thadeus.
- The Guardians of the Globe: Featuring Atom Eve, Tech Jacket, and other established heroes.
- Unexpected Allies: Battle Beast and Mark’s half-brother Oliver, who has aged rapidly into adolescence.
However, the biggest wildcard is Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). Though he claims redemption, having escaped Viltrumite imprisonment and joined the Coalition, his motives remain deeply suspect. His offer of trust to Mark is met with skepticism.
“You’ll have to trust me,” he says. The question remains whether Earth’s former betrayer can truly be trusted to fight alongside them.
Release Schedule
New episodes of Invincible Season 4 will air weekly on Prime Video every Wednesday, culminating in the season finale on April 22nd. The first three episodes are available now, setting the stage for an apocalyptic showdown between Earth and the Viltrumite Empire.
The war has begun, and the fate of the planet hangs in the balance.
